Pre-access programmes


Our SWAP partner colleges also run short full-time courses from January - June which help to prepare students for the SWAP Access to higher education programmes starting in September. These pre-access courses are designed to give students the opportunity to build up their study skills and learn about a range of interesting subjects. It also gives routes into other courses at SCQF Level 5/6.

Returning to study as an adult can be a daunting thought and these courses are designed to help you with that transition back into learning.


These courses are currently on offer at the following colleges and applications can
be made on-line. The courses will focus on Communications, Numeracy/Maths, IT and a variety of subjects relevant to the subject area. The Social Sciences programme may offer History, Psychology & Sociology whereas the introduction to Science will focus more on Maths, Biology, Chemistry. Study is at SCQF Level 4 & 5 and is an ideal way for adults to return to learn before moving on to a SWAP programme at Level 5/6. Engineering will focus on Maths, Engineering principles & systems, Communications and Information Technology.
