< Info : Introduction to Programmes of Study

This page answers some general questions about the programmes of study offered by SWAP in Scotland. To see a list of the actual programmes offered by region visit the programmes page.

What are SWAP Programmes of Study?

A SWAP Programme prepares you for entry into Higher Education and can guarantee you a place at a college or university, if you complete the programme successfully. You may have heard such programmes referred to as Access Courses, and many colleges and universities offer general access courses for entry.

What type of study is required?

Most SWAP Access Programmes are one year full-time. Most are run by Further Education Colleges, starting in August each year. Progress is usually monitored by continuous assessment and support is available from your personal tutor.

Are there alternative ways to study?

For details, please contact the individual colleges to enquire about the availability of part-time or flexible learning.

What sort of subjects can I do?

To see the full list of programmes that SWAP offers in each area of Scotland visit the programmes page.

Where can I get advice on choosing the right Programme?

If you are not sure what you'd like to do and would like general advice on options, you can contact any SWAP member organisation, or your local SWAP office.

How do I apply for an Access Programme?

Details of individual Programmes and how to apply can be obtained from SWAP, or you can visit the colleges' websites.
